A lightweight sunscreen that protects the skin from UV rays with a petal-like finish.
This is the October 2018 addition to the Althea brand product range and it's a sunblock that has SPF 50+ PA++++ (extremely high UVA protection). This sunblock was perfectly designed for residence in the country with tropical weather as it provides strong UV protection whilst keeping it lightweight, non-greasy, non-sticky and it doesn't even cause white cast!

While this product contains four features: Natural Ingredients, Soft as a Flower Petal (lightweight formula), No White Cast, and Cruelty-Free, there are three key features/ingredients of this product: Microparticles, sebum control and Damask rose extract. Each key feature/ingredient plays a vital role to keep this product lightweight, non-sticky, non-greasy, moisturizing and provide a radiant glow.

Microparticles: Velvet Finish
This sunblock has a lightweight texture with a very powerful UV protection from a non-chemical formula with an airy, fluid texture to protect the skin from UVA and UVB rays. The non-chemical UV filter adheres well on the surface of the skin and scatters UV light. The formula is gentle on sensitive skin without chemical ingredients and it does not leave a white cast behind due to a more transparent formula.

Sebum control: Petal-like Complexion
The velvety finishing yet hydrating formula controls excessive sebum on the skin with a micro powder system. The micro powder barrier refers to the microparticles that absorb sebum and excess oil from the skin to give a light, airy and velvety finish.

The extract moisturize and smoothen the skin while healing acne. It has a natural nanomolecular composition that is rich in vitamins to penetrate deep into the skin, soothing sensitivities and strengthening it for a radiant glow.

How to use
Step 1: Make sure your skin is clean before application. To use this with your skin care routine, proceed with cleansing, toning and moisturizing your skin before applying the sunscreen. If you'd like to use makeup, you can use the sunscreen before makeup.
Cleanser → Toner → Moisturizer → Sunblock → Makeup
Step 2: Shake well. Apply a generous layer evenly onto your skin in the morning or 10 minutes before sun exposure. I'd usually suggest with 10 minutes before exposing your skin to sunlight / UV light.
Step 3: Spread the sunscreen across your skin evenly. You'll find that it spreads out pretty easily and does not leave patchy marks or white casts. Once you're done, you can leave it as it is. You can also do your makeup after applying sunscreen. On the other hand, you can set the sunscreen for an even silkier and velvety finishing texture on your skin with the Althea Petal Velvet Powder.

Verdict
I am actually enjoying this sunscreen because it's so light and it smells so amazing. Its scent is like a type of rose essential oil (yes there are many types) and I think the sage oil, bergamot oil and geranium oil are doing amazing pairing up together. In fact, it does smell like rose geranium essential oil since there's geranium oil in it.
The texture itself is really soft. It's watery too but if you're not careful, you might find yourself looking at transparent liquid flowing down the opening of the tub (I'm assuming it's the rose extract) so you really have to remember shaking the bottle before using. I would also assume that when it is undisturbed, the liquid in the bottle will be separated to two layers due to density: transparent liquid on top (rose extract?) and the rest of the content remain below.
The application process was very easy. The sunblock can be evenly applied across the face effortlessly. The tube itself makes it easy to squeeze the content out without too much effort, too. My eczema skin did not feel any stinging or discomfort too. Although I did hear from a friend that her acne prone skin find this product triggering her breakouts. So far, everyone else who had tried this product shown no issues with it though. Hence, for anyone with acne prone skin, you might want to check the ingredient list and identify if you are allergic or sensitive towards any of the ingredients.
Hours after application, my skin remains smooth and the sunblock still feels very light. It doesn't feel sticky or greasy at all! By setting the sunblock with powder, it does make my skin feels velvety. However, I prefer to leave it as it is without any powder setting or makeup, especially when I don't have any intention to meet people aside from my colleagues at work. (I'm currently not wearing makeup to work but it will change once I change job.) While I don't usually end the day with a greasy face, a certain base product such as tinted sunblock or foundation (from certain brands) do. This sunblock is definitely not the type to leave my skin greasy at the end of the day.
The pricing of the sunscreen seems justifiable because a typical sunblock at a similar SPF range and price range would cost around RM50 or more. Not to mention that this product has natural ingredients along with high PA level. It's also very uncommon to see a PA ++++ sunscreen in the market. Besides, those with high SPF and PA levels are typically for body and they always end up getting sticky and greasy the moment you apply. Not to mention that they cause a lot of white casts. Hence, my discontinuation of using body sunblock. But to my surprise, not only that this brand offers one that doesn't cause discomfort, but it's also relatively affordable.
